Welcome to Ms. Haas' Fourth Grade Class!

Here are a couple of things to remember as the children put their final touches on their book reports this weekend:
* The written report and project are due, Monday, May 14, 2012.
*They will sign up on Monday for their exact presentation time.
*If they choose the living wax museum project, they don't bring their costumes in until the day of their presentation.
*When they present their project they may choose to read their written report to the class or they may write simple note cards with significant information.

Thank you for your help,
Kim Haas

This week I will not be assigning spelling or Wordly Wise. The children have their book report to finish (due Monday, May 14, 2012) and the music program is on Friday at 1:30. They must continue to practice their lines and they should bring in their costumes on Monday, May 7. They will need everything for the dress rehearsal on Tuesday. Most costumes require them to wear jeans, a solid color or plaid shirt and a bandana. The children were given a list on Friday with all the costume suggestions.

On Wednesday, May 16, at 10:00 Project Wildlife will be coming to the classroom to speak to the children about how the organization helps the community. Each child will be required to bring in $4.00 for the event. I will start collecting that money next Monday, May 14. In addition, Jill Skrezyna will be sending the parents an email with a list of items Project Wildlife needs to support its program as well as general information about this service learning project. Students may bring in items from the list on the day of the event.

Thank you for all your support. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Kim Haas

Here are a few dates to keep in mind:
Monday, April 30, 2012, each student should let me know which book they have selected to read. Since I am in Philadelphia at this time, a parent may email the title and author of the book to me, especially if their child wants to start reading the book this weekend.
A written one-page summary (see the handout for specific details) and one project (see handout for options) are both due on Monday, May 14, 2012.

The book report form was sent home on Tuesday. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help,
Kim Haas

Please bring in your articles on Monday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 2, for me to look over. You will share the articles with your peers on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:45.

One more thing, I will be attending a math conference in Philadelphia later this week. I will be out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You may reach me via email if you have any questions or concerns while I am gone.

Happy Earth Week!
Kim Haas

Tomorrow I will be walking with the children over to Jamba Juice in the Von's grocery store during snack time. They earned 30 "Wish Tickets" before we left on spring break, and I thought it would be fun to grant them their wish the first day back. It will be my treat, so they don't need to bring any money to school with them.

I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun spring break. See you tomorrow.

Math Competition 04/06/2012

On Thursday, Ms. Shieh and I spoke to all the children about a math competition for 4th and 5th graders that will be held in late May. We encouraged all children who excel in math to join us for the practice sessions listed below. Students must be able to solve problems quickly and accurately. If you feel your child would be a good fit for the competition, please have them join us on April 18, for the first practice session. Only five children will be selected to go to the competition. The event is sponsored by the Greater San Diego Math Council. Let me know if you have any questions.
